BassPro SL is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The subwoofer for the "adult" listener! Here is the situation in most from the factory car audio systems. They are pretty nice factory installs. The four or maybe six speakers are asked to give you nice clean highs and warm bass. However, to the critical listener, the mid highs and highs are not as sparkling and bright nor are the bass frequencies (kick drum and bass guitar) as tight and punchy as they should or could be. So, when you add the subwoofer ( JBL Bass Pro Sl ), you are doing two things. First, the low frequencies are contained and then released in the sub. Nice, tight,non-floppy low end. Second, you have now (with the built in crossover) directing the mid high and high frequencies to the very capable factory speakers. The head unit in the stock unit does not have to work as hard and the low stuff is handled by the powered sub. Everybody is happy. The sound is adult. Definition of adult. This sub is NOT designed to shake your windows, rattle your walls, etc. Mine is installed neatly under the front passenger seat of my VW Golf TDI Sportwagen. Bass is omni-directional to a large extent so the nice low profile design works perfectly. It is an 8" sub...not two large 12" paired boxes. This is not for your Chevy Crew Cab or Jeep Wrangler. This subwoofer compliments and completes your sound, not over powering it. Rock N Roll, Americana, Country, Classical, Jazz....YES, if you are in Death Metal, Hip Hop, Go,Go...nope. I work as a live sound engineer. JBL is a pro level speaker company that you will see on many national touring acts and sound companies. My .02, or in this case, my .04! enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was hoping for I've only had this sub installed for a few days now, but so far I'm loving it. No, it won't blow your windows out, but it is more than capable of being heard over the wind noise of a soft top Jeep Wrangler on the freeway. It was super easy to set up with a bit of wire and the included instructions.

Hi, I'm planning in installing a JBL GTR-104 and running a cable from the pre-out to the sub. I want to know if the BassPro SL will be able to filter-out the higher frequencies as I suppose the amp will transmit the whole frequency spectrum.

Asked by: lexmarkpol
Yes, you can connect the outputs from the GTR-104 directly to the BASSPRO SL. Then use the crossover in the BASSPRO SL to filter out the higher frequencies.

Will it work with the factory stereo of the Chevy Impala LT?

Asked by: Noah01
Yes, the BASSPRO SL will fit your car and can be mounted wherever you choose (under a seat, in the trunk, etc.). The speaker can be connected into any car's head unit using line level RCA or speaker level. Note that the BASSPRO SL requires power and grounding. We recommend you seek assistance from a professional when installing.

Purchased the BassPro SL for my 2004 Jeep Wrangler. Sound great!! better then expected..  Cant figure out how to have the sub turn off when I turn the car off.  I hooked up remote wire behind the radio. amp/sub always on?? help?

Asked by: JeepMike
There are several reasons why this might happen. It could be a grounding issue, speakers using a common ground, or the placement of wires. Please submit a case at www.jbl.com/support-contact.html and our Customer Service team will be glad to assist you.

Do you know if this will fit 2005-2009 Subaru Legacy GT? I've searched all over the internet for the Subaru under-seat sub dimensions to compare. I do not have the optional NAV system. Thanks

Asked by: UnkBo
The BASSPRO SL's Dimensions are (L x W x H): 13-9/16" x 9-7/8" x 2-13/16"(344mm x 250mm x 71mm). Please measure the under-seat dimensions of your vehicle to see if it can accommodate the speaker specs.

Do you need an amp for this sub?

Asked by: nectarbass808
The BASSPRO SL is a powered sub. It doesn’t need an amp. It can connect to a head unit as long as the head unit has a sub output.

Can you connect two together?

Asked by: Neogeo
It is not more of connecting them together but using two in one set-up – which is definitely possible, provided that your car battery/batteries can provide enough power for two of them. Since the BASSPRO SL is a self-powered subwoofer, you do not necessarily need to wire them together but simply run separate wires for them. For power and ground, generally, you have two options, to wire them individually or wire them with a distribution block. For the remote cable, you may find that a single remote turn-on lead is unable to handle the current draw demanded by multiple amps. One way to work around this issue is to connect the turn-on leads from your amps to a relay, which is triggered by your head unit. Now for the inputs, this depends on what your head unit offers, if it does have low-level (RCA) or high-level inputs (speaker wires). The BASSPRO SL can accommodate either form of connection and would require you to split the outputs from your head-unit to wire both amplifiers. It is important to remember to set the gain and crossovers at the same level.
