Would the club 5501 be a suitable amp to power this sub ?

Hi Izywizy, Yes, you'll be easily able to drive this subwoofer with the Club 5501 amplifier. Just a little extra information: The S3-1224 has no enclosure, so you will have to buy/build this yourself. The Thiele-Small parameters ( technical information on size/dimensions/volume of the enclosure ) can be downloaded from our product page. Hi, i just purchased one S3-1224 from JBL Italy and im building the Closed Box suggested in the manual (21.2 Litres).What is the reccomended low cut please?Thankyou in advance. P.S. Ive been customer for 30 years love JBL :)

The recommended frequency response for your JBL S3-1224 is 25Hz-175Hz, You could set your hi-pass to 25Hz which will be fine though setting it to 30Hz would be much more conservative.

Is the JBL GTO 501EZ adequate running this sub?

Hi Martin, The GTO 501EZ may be a little underpowered for the peak power of the subwoofer. It will easily drive the subwoofer though, but if you wanted to get a bit more power, you can also upgrade your amplifier somewhere in the future. Do you have to put this in an enclosure or can it go in the back parcel shelf

Hi. For best results with subwoofers, always build a box according to specs from JBL. But you can use it in a parcel shelf, and bass will be the result. However, the actual result depends on the area and seal of the shelf, its sturdiness and the volume of the trunk, which will act as enclosure. Also, you will not be able to play as loud as you could with an enclosure, because there is no air spring or tuned port that can reduce cone excursion. You will in effect have an undamped, free-air enclosure.
