4000-Watt, 12" Differential Drive Subwoofer

Product Actions
Completely rethinking how to create great bass from a 12" subwoofer.

The JBL® W12GTi MkII 12-inch (300mm) subwoofer is nothing short of amazing. Using technology from JBL’s professional audio division, where subwoofers have to fill large venues like stadiums and movie theaters with incredible bass, this subwoofer takes a completely new approach to moving air in a car. It all starts around the patented Differential Drive® Design (US patent no 5,748,760 and other patents pending) motor, which uses light and agile opposed 3-inch (76-millimeter) voice coils in a neodymium magnetic gap to provide completely linear control of cone excursion all the way up to Xmax. Symmetrical Field Geometry™ design ensures linear cone travel and low distortion at virtually any output level. Surrounding the proprietary motor design are other high-tech materials, including a cast-aluminum frame, Kevlar® cone, a nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) one-piece surround, gold-plated speaker-terminal binding posts, progressive spider and vented pole piece. This subwoofer handles an amazing 4,000 watts peak power (700 watts RMS), and all of its parts work in harmony to cool the voice coils for maximum output. This sub is one of the best car subwoofers that money can buy. It’s the 12-inch reference standard. Nothing else even comes close.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AAA+ I have been building car audio sub woofer enclosures since 1985 and in that time I have had the chance to play with almost every car audio sub ever made. These Wgti subs are still by far my favorite sound quality woofer , I listen to my music loud push my system hard daily for 1 to 2 hours at a time and these things never miss a beat or mud a single note, the note separation and articulation of this woofer is second to none , the guitar strings and drums SNAP like they each have their own source ..... if these woofers don't drop your jaw they were installed wrong ( very wrong ) I am running two 12" powered by a Crown BPX 2200.1 and I have 2 enclosures that I am bouncing back and forth with 4.0cf3 tuned at 28hz and 4.0cf3 tuned at 30hz and I think I'll be sticking with the 28hz enclosure once I add midbass it's really too bad they are now a discontinued product , I'v enjoyed working with them not shure what I'll do once I wear these ones out though everything else is a downgrade IMO

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely insane... I did not know one could experience too much bass. How sadly mistaken, I was. I wired it up by the 3 ohm configuration through a 2 cubic-yard labyrinth box, and a 3k watt amp (1500 rms)... I could not find enough settings to drop to minimum and turn off for my ears to stop bleeding. Rewired down to 12 ohms and now its the purest, delicious bass you can imagine. If i ever need to blow the clothing off an entire stadium of people, i'll go back to 3 ohms. Feels good knowing i've got that much headroom, actually. And with the lower-power configuration, everything stays blissfully cool with no interruption to performance or my car's lights (yes, the 3 ohm config dimmed my lights with the lower bass. lol.). Buy it. Buy it now.

How many cubic feet should an enclosure be for 2 of these

Asked by: Cade
Assuming you are building a sealed enclosure, 1 cubic foot is recommended for 1 speaker. If you are running 2 speakers in the same box, all you have to do is double the space, making it 2 cubic feet.

Is a sealed enclosure recommended over a vented one? If so how much airspace should an enclosure of each type allow for this woofer?

Asked by: TyLane14
Thank you for your question, this would be a user specific question.. depending on the genre or music you are playing can vary on different boxes and types.. ex.. if you listen to hip hop, heavy bass you would want a vented speaker box.. for Jazz and easy listening sealed box would be good for bass to roll out.

The W12GTi MkII is a 700W RMS and normally, 14-16 gauge wires is more than enough for most installations.
