Can this speaker be used when plugged in to the charger? I would like to use it with AUX source connected and permanently connected to the charger when at home and only use the battery power when I'm away.

Is this loud and clear enough to use in a large room full of people for exercise classes?

Although the Xtreme 2 already has quite a bit of output, I don't think this is enough for the purpose for which you want to use the speaker. Perhaps the Boombox 2 or even the Partybox 310 would be a better option for you.
