JBL Charge 4 is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from BOOMY! JBL speaker with great features. I am very impressed with the new JBL charge 4. The sound is clear and has more boomy base compared to the Charge 3, which I own also. The JBL charge 4 is a definite improvement with the louder base. Other improvements are that It does have a higher capacity battery (7500 mAh) than the charge 3 which is 6000 mAh and a type C charge for it, which to me is better and faster on charging. Also the JBL charge 4 is slightly bigger than the JBL charge 3. The speaker is waterproof (IPX7) and with the higher capacity battery makes an even better powerbank to charge your device while listening to music for a longer time . Just don't forget to download the JBL connect app to connect more than one JBL speaker and to keep up with any firmware updates. I have to honestly say the JBL Charge 4 is an improvement from the charge 3. When comparing the two with features and sound I choose the JBL charge 4.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charge series evolved! When I first read the JBL charge 4 had done away with dual drivers in favor of one proprietary driver. I thought this was crazy (not in a good way) until I listened. I felt testing this new single driver against a charge 3 dual driver would be a fun and fair comparison. Standing in front anywhere from 5-15’ish feet, I could not tell a single driver from a dual driver’d charge 3. If anything, the charge 4 has more to give in ways of overall power, sound stage, tuning and loudness. The differences seem to fluctuate depending on music. For example, Gorillaz and Princess Freesia/Soulpersona (fist bump Oluv) gave the charge 4 the advantage over the charge 3 in overall soundstage and really showed a better tuned speaker. The charge 3 sounded as if there was some type of fabric wrapped around it. Rock like Jane’s Addiction seemed to make the charge 3 & 4 sound more similar than different. Maybe this was a midrange thing? Stevie Wonder and Adele (once again) showed a much better tuned charge 4 vs. the charge 3 with more defined, crisp highs, cleaner but sweet lows and just overall more power and better separation. Lumineers also had more of a cleaner sound while the charge 3 just sounded like there was fabric wrapped around it..kind of a light muffle compared to the charge 4. I can kind of see why people claim the charge 3 and 4 sound similar but I am not one of those people. The charge 3 was a rock-solid speaker for its time but JBL DID evolve it with the charge 4. After comparing the 2 speakers’ side by side in different rooms/distances/genres, I see what JBL did there with the charge 4 and I was pleasantly surprised. My hat is off to them for improving without straying from an already great recipe. Depending on your budget, the charge 3 is solid BUT if you have a little extra to drop in the charge 4 definitely do it! Minor side note, the charge 4 does not include a wall plug but does come with a USB A-USB C cable to charge it but you must provide your own wall/usb charger. The charge 4 uses a USB C cable to charge itself but it does have the USB A output in case you want to charge your phone while on the go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommended I was surprised by the bass and mid range depth. This is the best portable Bluetooth speaker I have heard, hands down. Long battery life and waterproof make this the perfect outdoor speaker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly the Right Size Absolutely love this speaker. I live a pretty active lifestyle, and this speaker is the perfect size to take with me wherever I go. Its about the size of a water-bottle and fits in the side-pocket of my backpack. Great for hiking/day trips. The durable/waterproof design and ability to charge my phone are just bonuses. Don't worry about it being too small though, it gets louder than I'd ever need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Insights: Charge 3 vs Charge 4 As an owner of several other JBL speakers, I was able to test this sound and truly see if this speaker was an improvment. I put it up against its older brother and a personal favorite, the JBL Charge 3. After a few days of listening to both speakers back and forth, I will give you my feedback. 1. The Charge 4 sounds better then the Charge 3. If you start in mid range and move volume up, you hear deeper rich bass, cleaner mids and nicely rounded highs with no distortion. The Charge 3 sounds excellent for its day but the Charge 4 is more mature. In terms of max volume, the Charge 4 appears a slight amount lower than the Charge 3. However the Charge 3 has also had a few years of firmware updates 2. Its a bit larger but has great construction quality. The new Charge 4 feels very solid and rugged. The larger battery gives nearly identical battery life to my Charge 3 or mayhe slightly better since its new. The new button layout is easy and pairing works great with the press of a button on both speakers. They sound great paired together actually! 3. If you need speakerphone, it is no longer an option on the Charge 4. For me personally I am glad they did this so my tunes arent interrupted. The new charger is no longer micro usb so for people still using this it may be a downfall. If that's the case buy the cheaper Charge 3 and you will love it. So, all in all, I say this speaker is a win for JBL! It is better than the Charge 3 in nearly every way but keeps true to form. I am keeping mine as my new main everyday carry speaker. Its rugged, waterproof, has amazing battery life, sounds excellent, charges my devices and pairs with my other JBL speakers. Thanks for continuing to make great products JBL!

Is there any way to stop that sound it makes when we switch it on? Think in a customer's point of view, you are in the middle of the class and you pass it to your friend then he accidently pressed the power button?? Then boom that loud sound...

Can you hear the sound from the charge 4 to the right because of the single driver ?

Asked by: edre
Hi Eddis, I'm not sure if I understand your question completely. As it's a single driver speaker, it basically won't play stereo mode on it's own. But, when pairing it with another Charge 4, you can have them play in Stereo Mode, with a left and a right channel. I have a jbl pulse 3. Should I upgrade to the charge 4???

Asked by: gamingdude76
I don't think you should. it all depends what you need the speaker for. The pulse 3 is more of a home speaker which looks better because of the lights. The charge 4 is all about battery and sound quality so it is your choice
